MobilePay - Digital Wallets Explained

July 20, 2017

Curious about the new mobile payment options? You may have heard that Apple, Samsung, or Android mobile devices use digital wallet apps to store compatible debit and credit cards for point-of-sale convenience.  Your First Security Bank debit cards are supported on Apple PayAndroid Pay, and Samsung Pay; commonly referred to as MobilePay to cover these (and potentially future) options.
What is a Mobile (or Digital) Wallet App?
The wallet apps utilize Near Field Communication (NFC) to initiate secure payment transactions between contactless payment terminals and supported Apple, Android and Samsung devices.
First Security Bank currently supports three apps – Android Pay, Apple Pay and Samsung Pay – for its MobilePay service. Apple utilizes the ‘Wallet’ that is installed on newer Apple iOS devices. Android Pay and Samsung Pay apps can be downloaded from the Play Store.
Once you add your First Security Bank debit card to your digital wallet, all you need to do when you’re ready to pay is select the card in your app and touch it to the NFC sensor present in many card readers, and it processes just like a regular debit card! Your device manufacturer will offer the most up to date information on supported devices and iOS versions, and common questions about using First Security debit cards and MobilePay may be found here.
MobilePay allows for fast, convenient payment in online stores and apps by securely storing your card information and allowing you to quickly select which card you want to use.
Is My Device Compatible with First Security Bank’s MobilePay?
Supported devices must use the Android, Apple or Samsung operating systems and be Near Field Communication (NFC) enabled. At this time, this includes:
  • Android Pay – NFC-enabled smartphone and tablets running Android 4.4 and above
  • Apple Pay – Only devices with an NFC chip can be used at retail locations. iPhone SE, 6 and 7 or Apple Watch paired with iPhone 5 or later can make in-store purchases. Certain other devices without an NFC chip can make online or in-app purchases.
  • Samsung Pay – Galaxy S6 and above, Galaxy Note5, Gear S2 and Gear S3 watches
